On June 1, the TON blockchain, a vital infrastructure layer supporting Telegram’s decentralized services, experienced an unexpected TON network downtime that temporarily suspended block production. The issue, though disruptive, was swiftly addressed within 40 minutes, restoring normal activity across the network.

What Caused the TON Network Downtime?
The TON network downtime originated from an error involving the masterchain dispatch queue, as confirmed by the TON development team. Beginning at 12:51:00 UTC, the network ceased producing new blocks. Fortunately, no transactions were lost during this short period.
Engineers moved quickly to apply a patch and update a set of validators, enabling the chain to resume operation. A detailed postmortem report is expected soon to provide technical clarity.
Previous Interruptions in TON’s History
This isn’t the first instance of TON network downtime. Back in August 2024, the network faced multiple outages due to overwhelming transaction traffic related to the DOGS memecoin. On August 27, block generation stopped at block height 45,341,899, causing hours-long disruption. Although validators rebooted their nodes at 4:00 UTC, the network relapsed again later.
On August 28, another service halt occurred at block 45,350,522. The disruption, lasting approximately six hours, emphasized the vulnerability of high-demand blockchain networks like TON to transaction surges.
Institutional Support Remains Strong

Despite the latest TON network downtime, investor confidence remains robust. In March 2025, The Open Network raised $400 million from notable investors including Draper Associates, Sequoia Capital, SkyBridge, and CoinFund. These strategic investments indicate strong faith in the network’s growth potential and long-term impact, even amid technical hiccups.
A Cautionary Moment for Blockchain Infrastructure
The recent TON network downtime serves as a reminder of the fragility and complexity of scaling blockchain ecosystems. While recovery was impressively fast, the incident has reignited concerns over infrastructure resilience and long-term reliability, especially for networks aiming to support millions of users and high-throughput apps.
As Telegram increasingly integrates TON into its operations, system reliability will be critical to maintaining trust and adoption. The network is now stable, but the challenges of future-proofing TON remain.
“Even after the brief network outages, TON is gaining retail attention and institutional investment from big digital asset names in the crypto space.”
